NEIU Police welcomed their first police K9 on July 11, 2024. K9 Barron came from Medical Mutts in Indianapolis, Indiana. Originally trained to help persons with diabetes, Barron found his calling as a community service dog in the NEIU Community. Barron was named after a retired working dog that died right before we adopted our K9 Barron. You will see Barron walking around campus with our officers, guards and dispatchers during the week. Barron spends most weekends at home with one of our sergeants. For opportunities to meet Barron, please refer to the “Department News” section of our website as well as our Facebook Page.
