Looking for a Schedule of Classes other than Spring 2025?

If you wish to review a Schedule of Classes other than Spring 2025, choose a semester in the drop-down menu below and type in the appropriate year (if needed).

Spring 2025

The Schedule of Classes lists all classes being offered for a specific semester. To search for a class, you can log into NEIUport if you have a login and password. If you currently do not have a NEIUport login/password, you can browse the class offerings via this Guest Access link. You must be logged into NEIUport to register for classes.

The Schedule of Classes contains important information regarding the dates and times when you can register, important dates throughout the semester, tuition and fees, financial aid information, and much more. If you cannot find the answer to your registration/enrollment question, please contact Enrollment Services by stopping by Room D 101 or emailing us at registration@neiu.edu and we will be glad to assist you.

A reminder that Northeastern does not cancel your registration for non-payment. Instead, you are asked to review and accept a Financial Agreement document. You are financially responsible for the classes for which you register. The dates for dropping classes and the associated credit/refund percentages are available in the Tuition and Fees Refund/Credit Schedule section. For payment due dates, please refer to the Tuition and Fees Payment Schedule section.

The information in the Schedule of Classes is subject to change.

What is NEIUport?

NEIUport is Northeastern's University-wide internet portal. This portal provides quick, centralized, and secure access to information and services for all Northeastern students, faculty and staff.

Your NEIUport account allows you to:

  • Register for classes online
  • View course seating capacities (open or closed classes)
  • Determine course prerequisites
  • Print out a class schedule
  • View grades and transcript
  • Request official transcripts
  • Review Financial Aid awards
  • Print out a tuition and fees statement
  • Pay tuition and fees online with credit, debit or check

How Do I Obtain a NEIUport NetID and Password?

NEIUport accounts are automatically created for students admitted to NEIU. An NEIU Online Connection! letter is sent shortly after admission acceptance with your NEIU Student ID number. If you have not received your letter in the mail yet, you can also access your NEIU ID number by logging in to the Application Portal. Your ID number is needed to activate your NEIUport account successfully.

  • The NEIU ID number is highlighted in yellow on your NEIU ID Card
  • An NEIU ID card can be obtained at the Welcome Desk/Information Center located in Village Square.

How Do I Access NEIUport?

You can access NEIUport by going to: https://www.neiu.edu/neiuport. NEIUport is available 7 days a week from 6:00 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. with occasional time frames of site maintenance. Times are subject to change.

Class Schedule Information/Abbreviations

The online Schedule of Classes lists all courses available. It includes undergraduate, graduate, and extension (off-campus) courses. Classes may be added, cancelled, or changed in this listing. The University reserves the right to limit class enrollment and cancel classes because of insufficient enrollment, budget limitations, lack of an appropriate instructor, or other unforeseen circumstances. Students are responsible for reviewing all information to ensure correct and valid registration.

Each course is designated by a three or four digit number identifying the individual course, a one, two or three digit number indicating the specific section of that course, and a five digit course reference number (CRN). The three or four digit number that identifies the course indicates the level of complexity.

It is the responsibility of each student to enter the proper course reference number when registering. The course reference number is the key identifier for all registration activities. If you enter the wrong course reference number, your registration for that course may return a "Registration Add Error" message or you may be registered for the wrong course.

Who can enroll in 300-level business courses:

Students who intend to enroll in 300-level business courses must first meet the following admission/declaration requirements of the College of Business and Technology:

  • Complete the eight College of Business and Technology Foundation courses. Students must earn a grade point average of 2.50 or higher with no grade below a "C" for all courses, including Foundation Courses, applied to a business major or minor. The Foundation Courses are: ENGL 101 Writing I, ENGL 102 Writing II, MATH 165 Finite Math, MATH 167 Business Calculus, ECON 217 Microeconomics, BLAW 285 Legal Environment of Business, ACTG 201 Introduction to Financial Accounting and ACTG 202 Introduction to Managerial Accounting. Note: Enrollment in BLAW 280 and BLAW 285 requires completion of at least 30 credit hours.
  • Complete at least 60 credit hours (including the Foundation Courses) of course work and have a cumulative GPA of 2.00 or better for these hours. (For business minors a 2.00 cumulative GPA in at least 45 credit hours is required).
  • Must have completed all General Education Requirements.

All 400-level and 500-level Business and Technology Courses:

These are graduate level courses. Consult the NEIU Academic Catalog for special admission and registration policies that apply to them.

Prerequisites Will Be Enforced

Please note: Prerequisites are cumulative; i.e. some prerequisites have prerequisites of their own that must also be successfully completed prior to enrolling in a course. Students are expected to complete those courses with a "C" or better. Incomplete grades and "D" grades in prerequisite courses do not constitute successful completion. Students must not register for 300-level business courses unless they have met all prerequisites and requirements to declare a business major or minor. This includes a 2.50 GPA in the Foundation Courses.

All students, including students-at-large, are responsible for complying with the published prerequisites and other registration requirements. Class registration lists will be monitored and checked. Students who register for courses for which prerequisites have not been met will be responsible for any financial consequences due to their subsequent necessity to withdraw. Note that a student may advance register for a course in an upcoming semester while enrolled in a prerequisite course in the current semester, but must complete the prerequisite with a "C" or better to remain registered for the upcoming semester.

Students who have taken prerequisite courses at other institutions must have their transcripts evaluated by the Office of Program Advisement in the College of Business and Technology, Room CBT 159. If students have not already done so, they should consult with the Program Advisors immediately.

If you have any questions about the registration process or course prerequisites, please make an appointment with the College's advisors by contacting the Office of Program Advisement in Room CBT 159 or call (773) 442-6111 or email p-advise@neiu.edu.

Consult the current NEIU Academic Catalog for a complete description of the policies, requirements, and course prerequisites for the College of Business and Technology. The decision of the College of Business and Technology Dean's Office shall be final in all matters of College Policies, requirements, and course prerequisites.

Online/Hybrid/Videoconferencing Courses

Hybrid Courses
Hybrid courses (also called blended courses) combine face-to-face sessions and online instruction in a pre-announced, regular or reappearing pattern. Hybrid courses replace various percentages of the face-to-face sessions with online instruction.

Online Courses
Online courses are those courses in which all instruction is fully online. Students must be able to complete all requirements for an online course, including tests and course evaluations, without coming to campus.

Videoconferencing Courses
Northeastern Illinois University offers selected courses that are delivered through a two-way interactive video teleconferencing network. A course that is offered on the network will be identified as a “Videoconferencing Course."

D2L at NEIU: Are You Thinking About Online Learning?

If you are considering taking online or hybrid courses at Northeastern Illinois University, we've created a sample online course called "Is Online Learning Right for You?" This course not only shows you what an online course is like, it also helps you to decide if your study skills, personal schedule, and access to technology would make you a good online student. To begin,

Pass/Fail Option

  • The Pass/Fail option is available only to undergraduate students in good academic standing (cannot be on academic probation).
  • The Pass/Fail option is not allowed for General Education-Distributive Learning, developmental, Honors, tutored study, independent Study, English 101, and College of Business and Technology courses, or a course used to fulfill a major or minor requirement.
  • Students are eligible to exercise the Pass/Fail option only after accumulating fifteen hours in residency (courses taken at Northeastern).
  • Eligible students will be permitted one pass/fail course per term. A maximum of 18 pass/fail hours, including transfer courses from other institutions, may be applied toward graduation but may not be counted toward a student’s major area of concentration, minor, or General Education-Distributive Learning.
  • Declaration of the intention to select the Pass/Fail option must be made no later than the tenth day of the term by submitting a completed Pass/Fail Grade Option form to Enrollment Management Services (Room D 101). The decision to select the Pass/Fail option may not be changed after that date.
  • A grade of “P” will be used to indicate that the student has passed the course, and a grade of “F” will be used to indicate that the student has failed the course. The “F” will be included in the grade point average.
  • Instructors may offer courses restricted to pass/fail registration with approval from the appropriate college curricular governance Committee and by the Faculty Council on Academic Affairs. Hours of credit carried by such course(s) will be part of the maximum 18 hours which have been approved for the general Pass/Fail option.

Additional information is available in Enrollment Management Services (Room D 101) or in the current NEIU Academic Catalog.

Prerequisite Policy

Some courses require that one or more prerequisites (i.e., other classes completed with certain grades, test scores, etc.) be successfully completed (or the classes in progress) before the student is allowed to register for the class. The faculty members regard these prerequisites or their equivalent as a necessary foundation for student learning. It is the student’s responsibility to be aware of and meet any course prerequisite(s) prior to registration.

In situations where a course prerequisite(s) cannot be met, a student may request a prerequisite waiver (override) by contacting the program that offers the course. The program must enter the override in the student information system in order for the student to be able to register for the class.

Students who were permitted to register for a future semester due to "in progress" coursework will be dropped from the classes for which they do not meet prerequisites if they do not successfully complete the course prerequisite(s) and if no prerequisite override exists in the student information system.

Students should refer to the NEIU Academic Catalog for a description of courses, prerequisites and restrictions.

Waitlisting

Students who attempt to register for a course that is full may now put themselves on an Electronic Waiting List.

How It Works:

If a specific course section is full, students have the option to place themselves on an electronic waitlist. Should a seat become available; an email notification (NEIU email) will be sent to the first student on the waitlist. Students will have 48 hours from that time to login to NEIUport and register for the course, or remove themselves from the waitlist.

If you have any questions please contact the Registration office at registration@neiu.edu or (773) 442-4040.

Tuition Guarantee Plan

In 2003, the Illinois General Assembly amended the Northeastern Illinois University Act to include a four-year tuition guarantee for new undergraduate students beginning with the Fall 2004 semester. The purpose of the Act is to assist students and their families, at the beginning of the college experience, to be aware of what the costs of college tuition will be for the next four years. The Tuition Guarantee Plan applies to all newly enrolled undergraduate students, including transfers, and guarantees the same tuition rate for four continuous academic years. The Tuition Guarantee Plan applies only to tuition. The Tuition Guarantee Plan does not apply to fees.

Tuition Guarantee Plan Classification

For each student, the Tuition Guarantee Plan begins with the first term of enrollment. Under the Tuition Guarantee Plan, the tuition rate for new undergraduate students first enrolling at NEIU in the Fall 2004, or thereafter, will be held constant for four continuous academic years.

New Students

The Tuition Guarantee Plan applies to all newly enrolled undergraduate students (freshman, transfers, and students-at-large) seeking their first bachelor’s degree beginning with the Fall 2004 semester, or thereafter, and will be effective for four continuous academic years. Newly enrolled is defined as undergraduate students seeking their first bachelor’s degree and registered for at least one class on or after the first day of the term. The four-year tuition guarantee expires at the end of the term (fall, spring or summer) immediately preceding the four-year anniversary of the student’s initial enrollment. (For example, students who enter the Spring 2024 semester will be guaranteed their tuition through the Fall 2027 term.)

Extension to Tuition Guarantee Plan

Beginning in the Fall 2010 term, undergraduate students who previously qualified for the Tuition Guarantee Plan, as defined above, will now qualify for two additional years of guaranteed tuition. The tuition rate for the additional two years is equal to the amount charged to undergraduate students seeking their first bachelor’s degree who initially enrolled in the academic year following the students with the additional tuition guarantee. For example, students who first enrolled in Fall 2007 had their tuition guaranteed at the same rate through Summer 2011, and now will have their tuition rate guaranteed for two additional consecutive academic years at the rate charged to students who first enrolled in Fall 2008.

Students Whose Guarantee Expires

The Tuition Guarantee Plan as described above will expire after six continuous years following initial enrollment, or upon completion of a bachelor’s degree, whichever comes first.

Readmitted Students

Students who withdraw for any reason, other than being called up for active military service, and re-enroll will retain the guarantee rate they had when they withdrew from the University. The tuition guarantee will not be extended as a result of withdrawal.

Full-time or Part-time

The determination of eligibility for the Tuition Guarantee Plan is not affected by full-time or part-time enrollment status; all new undergraduates are included.

Students Changing Majors

The Tuition Guarantee Plan expiration date will not change for students changing their major.

Questions concerning this policy can be directed to either Enrollment Services or Student Payment Services.

Tuition and Fees Payment Schedule

Students may receive their refunds electronically through direct deposit. Please see the Payment/Refund link found in the Registration Tools channel, on the Current Student tab of NEIUport for instructions on setting up your electronic refund. Student refunds processed electronically will be disbursed up to one week prior to student refund check disbursements.

Printed refund checks for students will be mailed directly to students beginning the week of February 20, 2025.

Please note: Complete withdrawals or a semester with no grades earned may require a return of refunds.

Any refund checks not picked up in person will be mailed after the last date to drop classes, regardless of the amount or type of check. You must update your address on NEIUport if you change your address. If you have any questions, please contact the Student Loan Department at (773) 442-5175.

Residency Determination

An adult student (18 years or over) who has been a bonafide resident of Illinois for a period of at least six consecutive months immediately preceding the official beginning of any term of registration at the University will be considered an Illinois resident for tuition purposes. Other residency categories are explained in the NEIU Academic Catalog.

Evidence of resident status shall be submitted at the time of application for admission. A student may have his/her residency status reclassified at any time by the University on the basis of additional or changed information.

If the student is classified in error as a resident student, the change in tuition shall be applied to the next term after reclassification. If the student is classified in error as a non-resident, the change in tuition shall be applicable to the term in which the reclassification occurs. A written request for reconsideration must be filed with Enrollment Services (Room D 101) within 30 calendar days from the date of assessment of tuition. For additional information refer to the current NEIU Academic Catalog.

Outstanding Tuition and Emergency Loan Balances

In order for NEIU to continue to provide an affordable education, it is important for the student to meet his/her financial commitment. Students who have not met their financial obligation are subject to the following:

  1. The student may not be allowed to register for classes.
  2. Diplomas will not be released.
  3. The student's account will be charged a $50 non-refundable outstanding balance fee.
  4. The student’s account will be assigned to private collection agencies.
  5. The student’s account will be reported to the State of Illinois Comptroller.
  6. Please note that only one emergency loan can be approved in one semester.

Information for grants, scholarships, loan and work programs are available on NEIUport and in the Financial Aid Office (D-200). To be eligible for most Financial Aid awards, students must be enrolled at least half-time (minimum 6 credit hours for both undergraduate and graduate students), must be admitted into a degree-seeking program, and must be meeting minimum standards of academic progress.

To apply for Financial Aid for Spring 2025, students must complete the 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa and indicate NEIU (school code 001693) as one of their school choices. FAFSA results will then be sent to NEIU within 3-5 business days. Additional documentation may be necessary to verify the household information and to determine the student's eligibility for financial aid programs. Once the FAFSA is received, students can check requirements necessary to complete their application on NEIUport, My Financial Aid tab. Students can also view awards, disbursement dates, account balance by term, and academic progress status. For students not eligible to complete the FAFSA, the alternative application is available as a result of the State of Illinois RISE ACT and can be completed at https://studentportal.isac.org/en/alternativeapp. Both the FAFSA and the alternative application require 2022 income information.

Financial aid and scholarship awards will be processed in the date priority order that the student's FAFSA results are received at NEIU, and as funds are available. Students whose FAFSA results are received at NEIU after December 7, 2024, should be prepared to make an initial down payment toward the Spring 2025 balance due. Balances after the add/drop period will be assessed a one-time $10 deferment fee. Payment arrangements begin with 1/3 payment down and two other 1/3 payments the remainder of the semester. Balances after the third payment deadline will be assessed a one-time $50 late fee. If the student is later determined to be eligible for financial aid or scholarship funds, a refund will be issued accordingly by way of Student Payment Services.

Once eligibility has been determined, financial aid awards will be applied towards the student's tuition and fees. Tuition based scholarships (Illinois Monetary Award Program Grant, Veterans Grant, National Guard, Cooperating Teachers, Special Education Teacher Tuition Waivers, Assistantships, Graduate Merit or Need Based awards, employee benefit waivers) must be processed first two weeks prior to the tuition and fees payment due date.

Student Employment

We offer both Federal Work-Study and Student Aide Program employment opportunities. Federal Work-Study Program jobs are based on need as shown in your financial aid application. Other University jobs through the Student Aide Program are open to all students. To be eligible to work in either program, you must be currently enrolled at Northeastern for at least six credit hours in a degree program. See the job postings located outside of Enrollment Services and the employment office for the departmental contact information to initiate the interview and hiring process. You can also find job listings online using the Handshake job-posting tool.

Federal Work Study Program (FWSP) Eligibility

You must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) prior to March 1 for the upcoming award year. Students with the Student Aid Index (SAI) indicated on the FAFSA Summary must fall between $0 and $6,000. FWSP awards will be awarded until funds are exhausted. After that, if you are eligible, you will be placed on a FWSP waiting list. The Student Employment Office reviews the usage of FWSP awards each October and redistributes any available funds to those on the FWSP waiting list.

Off-Campus and Community Service Opportunities

If you have a FWSP award, you can earn $12-$15 per hour working for a non-profit organization in the Chicago metropolitan area or tutoring elementary students from Chicago Public Schools in reading and/or mathematics through the America Reads/America Counts Program. Please visit the Office of Student Employment for further information at Room D 012.

Complete Withdrawals/Return of Title IV Funds

Students who completely withdraw* from all classes prior to the 60% point of the overall term (which includes winter session) must repay a portion of financial aid funds received. The amount you repay will be based on the amount of time you attended classes. In most cases, you are entitled to keep the percent of aid that equals the amount of time you attended the term. For example, if you completely withdraw from classes at the 30% point of the term, you can keep 30% of your financial aid and would need to repay up to 70% of the aid you received.

NEIU will return unearned Federal funds to the U.S. Department of Education (Pell Grants, SEOG Grants, TEACH, or Direct Loans) and will charge your student billing account. Students must make arrangements to repay any amounts owed before being allowed to enroll again at NEIU or receive additional Title IV funds.

*NEIU considers that you are completely withdrawn from classes on the day you drop your last class online via NEIUport. Students who do not officially withdraw and can document their last day of attendance will be considered as having attended 50% of the term and will be responsible for repaying 50% of all federal aid received. Students who do not attend classes will be responsible for repaying 100% of all financial assistance received (including State Grant assistance).

Deadlines and Financial Aid Eligibility

Most Financial Aid Programs are based on your total enrolled hours as of end of business day on February 3, 2025.

See Tuition and Fees Refund/Credit Schedule for more information about add/drop deadlines. Once tuition and fees are covered, students may use credit balances toward the purchase of books and supplies at eFollett's Bookstore through the second week of classes. Check the Financial Aid website for dates, times and locations. Any excess financial aid funds remaining will be issued as a credit balance refund to the student. See Disbursement page for more details.

The deadline to borrow through the Federal Direct Loan Program for students enrolling during Spring 2025 is April 4, 2025, to ensure linking of degree program, online entrance counseling and electronic Master Promissory Note (eMPN) using studentaid.gov.

For additional information, check the NEIU website: https://www.neiu.edu/financial-aid or email us at financial-aid@neiu.edu.

NEIU photo ID cards can also be used as an add-value card in photocopiers, computer lab printers, and Library microfilm printers. The magnetic strip on the back of the ID card can be encoded with a dollar value up to $25. To encode (or increase) the dollar value on an ID card, go to an on-campus 'Add Value' station. Insert the card and a $5, $10, or $20 bill and the dollar value on the magnetic strip will be increased by that amount. Each time the ID card is used for a purchase, the dollar value encoded on the magnetic strip will be reduced by the amount of the transaction.

To obtain an ID Card, a student must present:

  1. proof of enrollment for the current semester (i.e. a current Student Detail Schedule or Account Summary by Term), and
  2. a current photo ID such as a valid driver’s license, state ID, passport, or any government-issued ID.

The initial ID card is free for enrolled students; however, the replacement cost of a lost ID is $10. Note: A replacement ID card resulting from damage or name change will be replaced at no cost as long as the original ID is presented at the time of replacement.

Illinois Articulation Initiative (IAI)

Northeastern Illinois University is a participant in the Illinois Articulation Initiative (IAI), a statewide agreement that allows transfer of the completed Illinois General Education Core Curriculum between participating institutions. Successful completion of the General Education Core Curriculum at any participating college or university in Illinois assures transferring students that lower-division general education requirements for an associate or baccalaureate degree have been satisfied and allows students to transfer this portion of an associate or baccalaureate degree from one participating IAI Institution to another without incurring a loss of credit. This agreement is in effect for students entering as a first time student in summer 1998 (and thereafter). For more information contact the Admissions and Transfer Center (Room D 130) at transfersteps@neiu.edu or (773) 442-4076.

Incomplete Grades

An Incomplete (“I”) grade is temporary and exceptional, and can be given only to students whose completed coursework has been qualitatively satisfactory but who have been unable to complete all course requirements because of illness or other circumstances beyond their control. An “I” grade is not to be awarded in place of a failing grade or when the student is expected to attend additional class meetings or to re-register to complete the course requirements. Additionally, an “I” grade is not a means for the student to raise his/her grade by doing additional work.

A request for an “I” grade must be made by the student to the faculty member before the last official day of the semester or term. The faculty member retains the right to make the final decision on granting a student's request for an “I” providing the student meets the provisions above, even though the student may meet the eligibility requirements for this grade. Students have up to one semester, excluding summer, to complete the work.

It is the responsibility of the student to complete and submit the remaining coursework before the assigned deadline. The faculty member will submit a grade change converting the “I” to a letter grade by or before the last day of the semester in which the outstanding coursework is to be completed. If the student does not meet the deadline, the “I” will be converted automatically to a final grade of an “F.” Since the "I" grade is temporary, faculty may not issue a terminal “I” grade.

Upon receipt of the grade change, the Registrar Services Office will post the grade to the student’s record and recalculate the GPA. Although students have up to one semester, excluding summer, to complete the work to change the grade of Incomplete, the student’s academic standing will be reassessed only if the grade change is received by the Friday of the first full week of the semester immediately following the one in which the “I” grade was assigned.

Students will not be allowed to graduate with “I” grades on their records.

Extension of an Incomplete Grade
A request to extend the assigned deadline must be put in writing to the appropriate academic dean before the assigned “I” grade becomes a failing grade. The request must provide the reason as to why a deadline extension is requested, along with including appropriate documentation (e.g. medical documentation, etc.). A letter of support from the faculty member that includes a new deadline date is also required. The Dean or his/her designate will make the appropriate decision at his/her discretion and reply in writing to the student, faculty member, and the University Registrar within 14 working days. Requests that extend beyond one calendar year from the time the incomplete grade was assigned will not be honored.

These policies apply to “I” grades given in the Fall 2016 semester or later.

Major Declaration

Northeastern requires all degree-seeking undergraduate students to declare a major by the time they have earned a total of 45 credit hours. Students intending to major in business, education, or graphic design can declare a “Pre-Major” until the program admission requirements to the College of Business and Technology, Daniel L. Goodwin College of Education, or the BFA in Graphic Design are met. More information about how to declare a major, and the form itself, is available on Northeastern's website.

Military Leave Policy

The call to active duty presents an extreme hardship upon students. In an effort to assist those students who are called to active duty, Northeastern Illinois University has established the following policy.

NEIU students who are members of the National Guard, Reserves, ROTC, or active United States military and who are called to active or inactive duty (i.e. drill, annual training, flight training periods, active duty for special work, readiness management assembly, Title 32, etc.) or who require medical treatment for service-related conditions will not receive any academic penalty for that service or treatment.

Within ten days after a student is notified that he/she has been called to duty, or needs to return for medical treatment (including travel time to/from the duty or treatment), he/she needs to inform his/her instructors that he/she will be absent. The Veterans Services office must also be notified.

Staff in the Veterans Services Office (Room D 130) will work with the instructors to help the student in a variety of ways in accordance with NEIU’s Student Military Leave Policy and as determined by the length of the absence, instructor, and student. The Veterans Services Office can be reached at (773) 442-4070.

Students at NEIU who have registered for classes prior to the beginning of the semester and have no financial or academic holds are allocated a 7,500 point print quota which will be given at the beginning of the first day of classes in the semester for which for which the student is registered. A student who does not meet these requirements or registers after the first day of classes will not receive a print quota and will need to log in to NEIUport, click the "Help Desk" icon and submit a support ticket though NEIU’s support application TeamDynamix or by contacting Technology Services at (773) 442-4357 (HELP) from any house phone.

Once logged in, users can also submit web print jobs, request refunds (within 48 hours and only due to hardware or toner failure), manage their printing account and set/change their PIN.
