Scholarship support is our number one priority for the Transforming Lives campaign. Through the establishment of scholarship funds through endowed or annual support, you can invest directly in Northeastern students and their futures.
To learn more about how you can establish a scholarship fund and help guarantee that a diverse group of students can transform their lives at Northeastern Illinois University, please contact the Director of Development, Sylvia Daniels, at s-daniels4@neiu.edu.
Endowed Scholarships
You can establish an endowed scholarship in your name or the name of a loved one with a gift of $20,000 or more to help students defray the cost of tuition, fees and books.
Endowed Full-Ride Scholarship - $450,000
An endowed, full-ride scholarship for Northeastern Illinois University students will cover the entire average cost of an undergraduate, in-state student’s bill for tuition, books, and fees for one full academic year. A full-ride scholarship is a transformational resource for the recipient and a compelling recruitment tool for the University.
Endowed Graduate Fellowship - $100,000
Fellowships are awarded to graduate students who excel in their field of study. They may support research or practice within a given discipline while significantly defraying tuition cost.
Endowed Scholarship - $20,000
For a gift of $20,000, you can establish a perpetual scholarship fund for students in any given major, or to help provide general financial assistance for deserving students. Scholarships are customizable based on academic merit, specific majors, financial need, or other criteria you define.
Annually Funded Scholarships
Not ready to create an endowment? You can establish a scholarship in your name or the name of a loved one with an annual gift of $1,000 or more. Annually funded scholarships rely on your gift each year, or you may make a one-time gift that is spent down over multiple years.
Study Abroad and Research-Related Travel
Travel broadens perspectives, informs dialogue and empowers students as change agents. You can open the world for students through a gift to study abroad and conduct research-related travel.
Study Abroad Scholarship - $20,000
You can make the world a classroom. Many intrepid Northeastern students dream of seeing the world and experiencing environments wholly outside of Chicago on their academic journey. Your study abroad scholarship will help make this dream possible by providing a monetary award to defray the cost of travel, tuition, books, and lodging – wherever in the world they go.
Research-Related Travel Award - $500 to $1,000
Northeastern students are increasingly accepted to present in research conferences ranging from Duluth to Dubai. Your support for research travel removes the roadblock of figuring out how they will get there by offsetting the cost of airfare, transit, and room and board.
Experiential Learning, Internships and Mentored Research
Internships and mentoring are powerful aids to student success and career development. However, students need financial support to take advantage of them.
Two popular Northeastern scholarships – the NEIU Alumni Association Internship Scholarship and the Doris Vrooman Mentorship Scholarship -- serve as models to donors who want to bring these valuable opportunities to more Northeastern students.
Every gift, at every level, makes a difference for our students. Have something else in mind? Contact Development for all the ways you can help support Northeastern students.
