We are accepting Individual Artist and Curatorial proposals for the Fall 2025-Summer 2026 exhibition season through May 25, 2024.
The Fine Arts Center Gallery is approximately 1,000 square feet with roughly 75 feet of running wall space. All walls are finished with drywall, with ¾ inch plywood backing. The Gallery is equipped with LED track lighting, five tracks mounted on a dropped ceiling, and features a slate gray synthetic floor. A connected storage facility within the gallery provides safekeeping for the receipt of artwork prior to, and after, installation. The Gallery is part of the NEIU Fine Arts Center, which houses the school’s visual, music and performing arts departments.
We strongly encourage submissions from members of groups traditionally underrepresented in the field, and from both emerging and mid-career artists. While individual artists are encouraged to submit, we are currently seeking curatorial proposals from individuals who have experience with diverse populations and who can contribute to the excellence of the community at Northeastern Illinois University.
The gallery does not restrict applicants to being within the Chicago region, but our budget does not allow for funding to ship artwork. Exhibit duration is normally four to six weeks, and artists/curators are expected to present a public lecture on their work and attend the gallery reception.
Curators may not include themselves in exhibition proposals.
