The NEIU Literacy Center is operated by the Literacy Education graduate program. Current graduate students enrolled in their Literacy Education Practicum courses are the teachers (tutors) in this program. All assessment and instructional sessions are supervised by a Literacy Education faculty member.
- In this program, children and adolescents receive a comprehensive assessment of their current reading skills, and are provided with individualized instruction to expand those skills.
- The Literacy Center serves students from grades 2-12 who are reading below grade level or experiencing reading difficulties.
- The cost of the program is $150 for the term.
The Winter/Spring 2025 term includes 11 90-minute sessions that will take place in-person on Saturday mornings on the Main Campus in the Literacy Center (Lech Walesa Hall, Room LWH 2003).
Sessions for younger students meet from 9:00-10:30 a.m.; sessions for older students meet from 10:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Student placements are determined by the Literacy Center Director. Sessions will begin Feb. 15 and end on May 3. There will be no sessions on Saturday, March 22 due to NEIU spring break.
