The Northeastern Illinois University Board of Trustees announced today that it has named Dr. Wamucii Njogu acting president of the University for the period of April 1 through May 31, 2018. Earlier this month, the Board appointed Dr. Gloria J. Gibson president effective June 1, 2018.
Njogu has been serving as Northeastern’s acting provost since July 1, 2017. In addition to her duties as acting provost, Njogu has served as co-chair of the Forward 150 program prioritization initiative.
Njogu arrived at Northeastern in 1996, joining the faculty of the Department of Sociology, where she later became coordinator and department chair. She then served as assistant/associate provost before taking on a role as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, a position she held for eight years.
As Dean, Njogu worked with faculty to develop programs, including the Master of Social Work, Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, and the EMERGE Summer Program. She also served as the principal investigator for a U.S. Department of Education Title III grant to support Biomedical Environmental Sciences and a multi-year IBHE grant, which funded student success programs.
