CHICAGO - The National Association of Student Personnel Administrators Region IV-East has honored Sharon Hahs, president of Northeastern Illinois University, with its 2013 President’s Award. This annual award recognizes a college or university president who has enhanced the quality of student life on campus by supporting staff, programming and services that assist students.
Hahs was selected for this award among college and university presidents in NASPA’s upper Midwest region, which includes all higher education institutions in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Wisconsin and Ontario, Canada.
Nominees must demonstrate a strong record of improving the quality of the student experience at their schools, involving students and staff in university decision-making, and making valuable contributions to higher education beyond an individual university.
Hahs’ nomination included letters of support from students, alumni, elected officials and higher education professionals, including Antonio Flores, the president and CEO of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities.
Ellen Meents-DeCaigny, NASPA Region IV-East awards chairwoman, said, “Dr. Hahs serves as a role model for other university presidents, and we in NASPA IV-East are proud to recognize her leadership and valuable contributions to the quality of the student experience by awarding her with the 2013 NASPA IV-East President’s Award.”
Hahs said, “My number one goal is to maintain the trust our students put in Northeastern and do everything possible to help our students succeed and realize their educational aspirations.”
