Three alumni of Northeastern Illinois University have been named to Negocios Now’s 2017 Latino 40 Under 40 list of Chicago movers and shakers.
The alumni on the Spanish-language business publication’s list are:
- Ana Laura Alvarado (B.A. ’06 Justice Studies)
- Rodrigo Garcia (B.S. ’07 Finance)
- Julia Hinojosa (B.A. ’04 English)
“Northeastern Illinois University alumni never fail to make us proud,” said Damaris Tapia, director of Northeastern’s Office of Alumni Relations. “The fact that three members of this exclusive list are graduates of Northeastern serves as yet another reminder of the positive influence this institution has in our community.”
Alvarado recently became one of the first individuals who has been granted Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals status to be licensed to practice law in Illinois; Garcia is the chief investment officer and chief financial officer for the State of Illinois Treasury; and Hinojosa remains close to Northeastern as a dancer and head of the youth outreach program with the resident Ensemble Español Spanish Dance Theater.
“It’s an honor and a privilege to showcase the positive contributions of these young Latinos, many of which are Millennials,” said Clemente Nicado, publisher and editor in chief of Nicado Publishing Company, which owns Negocios Now. “These special men and women who are truly paving the way for future Hispanic generations to admire and follow.”
40 Under 40 is Negocios Now’s latest honors list to include a number of people connected to Northeastern. In July 2016, more than a dozen people with connections to Northeastern were named to Negocios Now’s Who's Who in Hispanic Chicago list.
Northeastern Illinois University is a Hispanic-Serving Institution that is the most diverse university in the Midwest, according to The Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education College Ranking. Nationally, Northeastern ranks 22nd.
