Northeastern Illinois University will be well-represented during the Illinois Economic Association annual meeting Oct. 17-18 at DePaul University.
IEA president-elect Michael Wenz, associate professor and coordinator of Northeastern's Economics Department, put together a program that includes presentations by four Northeastern faculty members and one recent graduate.
Billy Foster (B.A. ’06 Economics), who recently earned his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Chicago, will present his paper, “Driving Down Deaths: How Demographic, Social and Safety Changes Led to a Drastic Decrease in Traffic Fatalities in the Early 2000s.”
The program also will feature presentations by Northeastern assistant professors Scott Hegerty, Ryan Gallagher and Hardik Marfatia and instructor Rich Schwinn.
The IEA boasts several Nobel Laureates among its list of past keynote speakers and presidents, and this year's keynote address will be given by Joel Mokyr from Northwestern University.
The IEA is a professional organization dedicated to the promotion of high-quality research and teaching in economics. This year's meetings feature more than 50 academic presentations from scholars at universities and other institutions throughout Illinois and beyond.
