The Chicago Film Society and Northeastern Illinois University are pleased to announce their Fall 2024 film series

Screenings will be held in the Auditorium of the University’s Main Campus, 3701 W. Bryn Mawr Ave. in Chicago. Tickets cost $5 with a Northeastern ID and $10 for the general public. If anyone is interested in attending, but is having financial hardships, please contact info@chicagofilmsociety.org. Complimentary parking for audience members on Wednesday nights is available in Parking Lot D adjacent to the Bryn Mawr entrance.

Additional screenings take place at the Music Box Theatre, 3733 N Southport Ave. in Chicago. On Saturday, Oct. 19, the Chicago History Museum will also host “Home Movie Day” at the museum from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. as part of this season’s offerings. This is an opportunity for members of the public to have archivists and projectionists inspect and project any 16mm, 8mm, or Super 8 home movies that walk in the door. Those without films are welcome to come to enjoy the projections.

This is the Chicago Film Society’s and Northeastern’s 24th season of collaboration, which is sponsored by the Department of Communication, Media and Theatre. This season’s highlights include “All That Heaven Allows” (Douglas Sirk’s beautiful and timeless melodrama starring Rock Hudson and Jane Wyman), “Vagabond” (the award-winning 1985 masterpiece from French New Wave icon Agnès Varda), a rescheduled screening of last semester’s “Trouble in Paradise” (Ernst Lubitsch’s 1932 pre-Code classic), and “Curse of the Cat People” (a “melancholic supernatural Christmas fantasy” produced by Val Lewton when he was the head of RKO’s horror division in the 1940s).

"As the newest movies compete at festivals and get wide release before awards season, this is a good time to watch classic films on 35mm presented by the Chicago Film Society right here at Northeastern,” said Professor of Communication, Media and Theatre Shayne Pepper.

Pepper, who helped foster the collaboration between the University and the Chicago Film Society, is excited for this season and noted having these films at the University is a rare chance to see these movies on actual 35mm film rather than digital formats.

“Wednesday nights in the NEIU Auditorium is the best place to be if you are a movie fan in the Northwest Side of the city,” Pepper said. “We have a great line-up of films this semester, and there is nothing like seeing them with a crowd."
