Michael Bedell has been appointed as dean of Northeastern Illinois University’s College of Business and Management, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Richard Helldobler announced Nov. 26. The appointment is effective Dec. 1, 2014.
Bedell came to Northeastern as associate dean of the College of Business and Management in 2012 after serving in a similar role at California State University-Bakersfield, where he led a successful AACSB accreditation process.
“The COBM Faculty Assembly has expressed the need for a leader who will best position the COBM to become accredited by the AACSB, a long-awaited goal for the both the College and University, a distinction that will benefit our students, faculty and staff,” Helldobler said in his announcement. “Dr. Bedell is best positioned to work with the faculty towards that goal.”
Under Bedell’s leadership as acting dean, the proposal for a new Forensic Accounting minor, as well as important revisions to the Master of Business Administration degree program, are moving through faculty governance.
“From the time Dr. Bedell joined Northeastern, COBM faculty have commended his transparency and his ability to listen, leading to inclusive decision-making for the College,” Helldobler said. “Additionally, they mentioned his courage to take on difficult challenges within the College.”
Bedell holds a Bachelor of Science in Business and Psychology and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Kansas, and a Doctorate in Human Resources and Operations Management from Indiana University-Kelly School of Business.
