Northeastern Illinois University Dean of Libraries Carlos Melian has written the following open letter to commemorate the opening of the new Chicago Public Library location in Albany Park, just blocks from the University’s main campus.
Dear Albany Park Library Patron,
Congratulations on your new library! I was able to attend the opening celebration on Saturday, September 13, 2014 and I was very excited about your new building and the continued commitment to library services for the Albany Park community. If the amount of enthusiasm I saw that day is any indication of the community’s response to the new building then it has once again reclaimed its vital role in Albany Park.
It has been a pleasure to work with the Chicago Public Library, Albany Park Library and Alderman Margaret Laurino in providing you with library services during the past two years. I hope you were able to use our library during construction, including the ability to borrow items from our collection. The Library is open to anyone but you may continue to receive borrowing privileges by becoming a Blue & Gold Member or a Blue & Gold Associate Member of the NEIU Alumni Association for $30 per year. In addition to a number of other great benefits, this membership level includes the same borrowing privileges we have been providing to you. Complete information is available at neiu.edu/alumni or by calling the Office of Alumni Relations at 773-442-4205.
If you have any items from the Ronald Williams Library please return them by November 1, 2014. Feel free to contact our Head of Circulation, Molly Mansfield at 773-442-4476 if you have any questions.
Once again, thank you for using the Ronald Williams Library. While we are quite different from your public library, I hope we were able to address some of your needs for library services during this time. Enjoy your new library! I’m sure the building and the staff will continue to provide you with years of quality library service.
Sincerely,
Carlos Melian
