During a public meeting of the Northeastern Illinois University Board of Trustees on Friday, June 23, 2023, Dr. Katrina E. Bell-Jordan was named Interim President of the University for a one-year period beginning July 1, 2023.
Bell-Jordan came to Northeastern in 1997 as an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication, Media and Theatre (CMT). She served as Chair of CMT from 2007 to 2014 before being named as the College of Arts and Sciences associate dean in 2015. She led the college as Interim Dean from July 2017 until she was named Dean in March 2020. Bell-Jordan earned a Ph.D. in Rhetorical Studies and Media Studies and a M.A. in Rhetorical Studies at the Ohio University School of Interpersonal Communication. She earned a B.S.J. in News Editorial Journalism at the Ohio University E.W. Scripps School of Journalism.
Following a comprehensive internal search process, the Board of Trustees interviewed three finalists who were identified by the University search committee, which included faculty, staff and students.
The search process for a permanent president will be shared by the Board of Trustees at a later date.
