Accomplished Brazilian pianist Sergio Monteiro will perform at Northeastern Illinois University on Sept. 18.
Monteiro, who has won numerous piano competitions, including the second annual Martha Argerich International Piano Competition in Buenos Aires, began studying piano at the age of 4. Awarded a scholarship by Brazil’s Ministry of Culture, he earned a Doctor of Musical Arts from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y.
Works selected for performance include:
- “Mozart: 9 Variations on a Minuet by Duport”
- “Schumann: 2 Noveletten”
- “Albéniz: Suite Iberia (Book 1)”
- “Oswald: 6 Pieces Op. 33 and Op. 36”
- “Liszt/Klauser: Les Preludes”
