Music lovers of all ages will have a chance to relax and listen to a free concert during Northeastern Illinois University’s annual Jazz on a Summer’s Evening event featuring The NEIU Jazz Ensemble.
The concert will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, on the University Commons, 3701 W. Bryn Mawr Ave. Bring lawn chairs and blankets for outdoor seating. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be moved into the Auditorium.
The NEIU Jazz Band has performed an annual summer concert since 2008 under the direction of Mayo Tiana.
“It was started as a way of reaching out to the community and to attract young musicians interested in jazz to the NEIU campus. We have been successful on both objectives,” Tiana said.
The NEIU Jazz Band will perform music of Duke Ellington, Thad Jones, W.C. Handy, Eddie Sauter, Glenn Garrett and Don Piestrup.
Complimentary parking will be available in Lot F and on Levels 4 of the Parking Facility.
