Northeastern Illinois University’s Fine Arts Center Gallery will showcase desktop 3-D printing objects from Chicago-based artists Tom Burtonwood and Holly Holmes through July 24.
“Copy Shop” features a significant number of works whose source material has been 3-D scanned and remixed digitally prior to being 3-D printed.
Members of the Northeastern community are invited to bring small objects to the gallery and have them 3-D scanned, printed and added to the exhibition. Participants in “Copy Shop” will receive a 3-D printed copy of the object they had scanned in recognition of their help in the exhibit.
How does the process work? Check out a demonstration using the MakerBot Replicator 2 machine.
