Project Goal
To create a high-quality illustration that strongly represents the University’s mascot—the golden eagle—and provide the NEIU community with an icon they can use consistently to symbolize their school with pride.
Other Considerations:
- The illustration should represent the personality research conducted in 2019 and highlight the tenacity and determination of our students. Keywords to consider include pride, perseverance and resilience.
- In terms of quality, the final product should be on par with other state universities—as well as educational institutions represented by an eagle (Boston College, Marquette, Southern Miss, etc.).
- Ideally, the final mascot illustration should resemble the Goldie costume (shown to the left).
- The illustration should align with the elements outlined in NEIU’s official brand guidelines; in particular, Northeastern’s color palette should be utilized.
Our Research
To begin this project, a competitive analysis was conducted on many of our peer institutions. We also looked at professional organizations that are represented by an eagle.
Our Process
During this project, over 25 unique versions of the mascot illustration were created. Numerous variations for each concept were also explored before arriving at the final result.
