The NEIU Sigma chapter of Omicron Delta Epsilon
Northeastern Illinois University is home to the Sigma chapter of Omicron Delta Epsilon one of the world's largest academic honor societies. All students with an interest in Economics, indicated by the completion of 12 credit hours in Economics courses, and an overall grade point average of 3.0 are encouraged to apply for membership. Economics alumni are also welcome to join. Applications for membership are submitted to the Economics Department Office.
Objectives of Omicron Delta Epsilon
The objectives of Omicron Delta Epsilon are recognition of scholastic attainment and the honoring of outstanding achievements in economics; the establishment of closer ties between students and faculty in economics within colleges and universities, and among colleges and universities; the publication of its official journal, The American Economist, and sponsoring of panels at professional meetings as well as the Irving Fisher and Frank W. NEIU’s Chapter
At the chapter level, students have opportunity to serve as officers, organize events such as a career panel discussion, and work with faculty to bring guest speakers to campus and more. All students may participate in activities and events without being a member of the society. An induction ceremony for new members is held annually.
