Northeastern Illinois University has received a revision to its financial outlook from Moody’s Investors Service. Moody’s now regards Northeastern as “positive” instead of “stable.”

Moody’s cited the state of Illinois' improved fiscal environment and the University’s prudent financial management, despite challenges in the state's student market, as reasons for the revision.

“The University remains steadfast in our commitment to ensuring that Northeastern Illinois University continues to provide a high-quality education while maintaining a strong financial foundation,” said President Katrina E. Bell-Jordan.

In December 2021, Northeastern received a three-notch credit upgrade from Moody’s. In April 2022, Moody’s gave the University an additional one-notch credit upgrade

As a result of the outlook revision, the University is better positioned to obtain more favorable debt terms due to its creditworthiness.
