While I work very hard on my school work, take my education very seriously, and successfully balance both school and a full-time job, I do not believe that these assets set me apart from other students at Northeastern Illinois University, one of many things that I love about the education I have received here. It is incredibly rewarding to learn in a space filled with such hard working and dedicated students. I truly love going to class as I gain so much not just from our incredibly smart, supportive and encouraging professors and instructors, but from fellow students who never take their education for granted. I consider it a privilege to have the opportunity to learn in such an engaging, stimulating atmosphere. I have been lucky enough to receive monetary awards and scholarships from the English Department for my academic writing which have been crucial to continuing my education. These awards are a direct result of the extraordinary education I have received at NEIU, which has ignited in me an intense passion for learning, thinking and writing. I have also received financial support that has allowed me to attend academic conferences. As a student whose goal is to continue my academic career into graduate school and one day become a professor myself, these conferences are invaluable. They allow me to present my work to other academics and students and receive vital feedback, as well as provide an opportunity to network with potential graduate schools so that my education can continue. These experiences are essential to my future, and without the financial support I have received they would not have been possible. I am so grateful for the opportunities that the College of Arts and Sciences have provided me with. Katelyn Juerjens |
