Call for NEIU Strategic Planning Core Team Nominations
FROM THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT
TO: University Community
FROM: Dr. Katrina E. Bell-Jordan, President
We are excited to launch Northeastern Illinois University’s Community Strategic Planning process, as a critical means of charting the direction for the University. The University is committed to an inclusive and participatory process that engages our community to create a plan aligned with NEIU's Mission, Vision, and Values.
Background and Impact of Strategic Planning
The University's last Strategic Plan was created in 2008 and refreshed in 2014. We seek to develop a new plan to guide us forward, enabling NEIU to strengthen its impact as a Minority-Serving, Hispanic-Serving, and Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution that is committed to providing a high-quality and accessible education.
NEIU’s Strategic Planning will be informed by three major frameworks
- Best Practices for HSIs and MSIs
- Core Components of Excelencia Framework
- Data-Informed Methods and Analysis
Key Features of NEIU's New Strategic Plan
- Commitment – Uniting the University around institutional priorities that support our mission
- Goals – Defining actionable goals to guide the University’s direction and decisions
- Planning – Identifying resources and investments that foster growth and impact
- Assessment – Establishing metrics to measure progress and ensure accountability
- Adaptability – Creating a framework that anticipates future trends and challenges
Leadership and Engagement
Strategic Planning Leadership Team
The process will be led by the Strategic Planning Leadership Team of R. Shayne Cofer, Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs; Chris Childers, Executive Director, Marketing & Communications; and Claudia Mercado, Interim Vice President for Enrollment Management.
Strategic Planning Core Team
We seek to form a Core Planning Team that includes a cross section of NEIU faculty, staff and student volunteers to facilitate the University’s strategic planning process. This team will drive the strategic planning process by engaging University stakeholders; developing strategic priorities and goals; analyzing data and drafting the plan.
Process Timeline
The planning process began in August 2024 and is expected to continue through July 2025.
Call for Nominations for Core Planning
The University is launching a process that builds off groundwork established by the NEIU President’s Team, pursuing a bold and assertive timeline to achieve our strategic planning goals.
Community involvement is essential to developing a plan that strengthens Northeastern's Mission, Vision, and Values and secures a vibrant future for the University. Thus, nominations (including self-nominations) are being accepted for Strategic Planning Core Team volunteers.
Please submit nominations, including why you/nominee should participate as a Strategic Planning Core Team member and what you/nominee will contribute to this work, to: President@neiu.edu by 5:00 p.m., Monday, November 18th.
For NEU community members interested in being involved in the strategic planning process but are unable to participate as a Core Planning Team volunteer, there will be several additional opportunities to get involved and provide input.
Thank you for your continued commitment to NEIU.
