Who is eligible to receive health services at NEIU?

All currently enrolled students with a valid NEIU ID are eligible to receive care at Student Health Services.

What services are provided to students by Health Services?

  • Assessment
  • Basic first aid care of minor illness
  • Emergency contraception
  • Equipment/video loan
  • Smoking cessation
  • Suture removal
  • Pap smears
  • Treatment of sexually transmitted diseases
  • Birth control
  • Menstrual disorders
  • Minor gynecological problems

Is an appointment required for service?

It is always preferable to make an appointment for services. 
In the event of an unexpected acute illness or urgent need, limited walk in services are available

What tests are offered to students?

  • Blood pressure
  • Blood sugar
  • Cholesterol
  • Dipstick urinalysis - check for infection
  • Hemoglobin - check for anemia
  • HIV-GC/chlamydia
  • Pregnancy
  • Rapid strep A
  • Tuberculosis (TB)

Do students need to have Health Insurance Plan to receive care at health services?

No. Your Student Health fee supports these services.

Are students able to obtain free condoms from Health Services?

Yes. Male condoms, dental dams, lubricant and latex-free male condoms are available.

Are students able to obtain birth control through Health Services?

Yes. Make an appointment with our Advanced Practice Nurse.

Are female students able to obtain a Pap test at Health Services?

Yes. Make an appointment with our Advanced Practice Nurse.

Are students able to be tested for tuberculosis at Health Services?

Yes, Student Health Services offers TB skin tests by appointment on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. If a TB skin test is done, it will be necessary to return to the Health Services 48-72 hours afterwards for a TB test reading.

What is the procedure for TB clearance if I have a TB test done at an outside facility?

Bring official written documentation of the TB test date and results to Health Services for review by a nurse.

Are there special activities offered to students during finals week?

Stress Free Zone is provided during finals week as a place for students to relax and reduce the stress of exams.
