Campus Recreation Student Employment
Campus Recreation is one of the largest employers of students on campus. With the wide variety of disciplines offerered under Campus Recreation, we must have a large staff and several positions offered to run these areas. Multiple areas include aquatics, fitness, adventure programming and intramural sports. Building Staff: There are three areas building staff will work in on a given shift: equipment room, front desk and fitness center.
- Equipment Room: This position is responsible for checking equipment in and out, keys, towels, as well as selling items and laundering towels.
- Front Desk Attendant: This position is accountable for meeting, greeting, guiding and informing every person who enters the building. This position is responsible for checking ID and membership cards as well as selling memberships, program registrations and daily passes.
- Fitness Consultant
This position is responsible for supervision of the fitness center, including checking in and assisting patrons and maintaining a safe, clean environment.
This position enforces all departmental and NFHS sport rules during intramural team sport contests. Knowledge of sport rules is expected.
Intramural Scorekeeper: This position performs scorekeeping duties for intramural sports such as basketball sport contests. Knowledge of sport rules is expected and training will be provided.
Swim Instructor: This position instructs youth learn-to-swim lessons. Instructors are responsible for the safety and progression of all swimmers in the program.
Lifeguard: This position is responsible for opening and closing the natatorium, ensuring the safety of all patrons, and informing patrons of rules, regulations, policies and programs. Additional requirements: American Red Cross certification in lifeguarding and first aid, and CPR-PR and AED.
Climbing Wall Facilitator: This position is responsible for the operations of the indoor climbing wall. In addition to supervising open climb hours, this position will maintain equipment inventory, rope logs, and assist in the training of staff and users.
Team Building Facilitator: This position facilitates outside groups in a variety of team-building exercises. The facilitator interacts with groups that need coaching and is responsible for helping participants reach decisions and accomplish goals. A facilitator must be comforable working with group dynamics while managing the meeting or activity in progress.
Group Exercise Instructor: This position instructs organized group exercise classes. Schedules are set at the beginning of each semester. Group exercise instructors are responsible for the safety and well-being of all participants in classes. Additional requirements: specialized certification in specific fitness area.
Personal Trainers: This position is personally responsible for their own clients and scheduling. Personal trainers work with students, staff and community members to improve fitness on a personal level for the client. Personal trainers are responsible for the well-being of all clients. Additional requirements: American College of Sports Medicine Personal Training certification.
