New Northeastern Education Building Project Awarded

The new $73 million Education Building at Northeastern Illinois University will be designed by national architecture and engineering firm SmithGroupJJR. At 160,000 gross-square-feet, the new building will accommodate the span of teaching, learning, service and research needs of the Northeastern College of Education users. A full range of space types will be programmed, including general and specialized classrooms, clinics and laboratories for undergraduate and graduate students and faculty, and meeting and conference spaces.

Divvy plans Northeastern bike docking station for spring

Chicago’s Divvy bike-sharing service will install a docking station adjacent to the Northeastern Illinois University main campus in the spring of 2015, the program announced Thursday, Aug. 21. The move is part of a greater expansion project that will take the service as far north as Touhy Avenue, as far south as 75th Street and as far west as Pulaski Road. While the expansion is subject to change, Divvy currently plans to install a station on the west side of St. Louis Avenue, just north of Balmoral Avenue.

New undergraduate students who were unable to participate in a summer orientation session are invited to one last session that has been added to the schedule. Express Orientation is designed to support new students as they transition into Northeastern Illinois University, helping them define and reach their academic goals. Students will have the opportunity to register for classes, meet with a financial aid representative and learn about available resources. Express Orientation will be held on Saturday, Aug. 23, at 2 p.m. in the Golden Eagles Room in the Student Union Building.

“Material Matters” at the Fine Arts Gallery

The Northeastern Illinois University Fine Arts Gallery will present “Material Matters,” an exhibition that expands upon the language of abstraction through an exploration of the materiality of paint. Featuring artists Tim Bergstrom, Samantha Bittman, Daniel Bruttig, Kristin Haas, Matt Irie and Scott Wolniak, the exhibit will run Monday, Aug. 25, through Friday, Sept. 19, in the Fine Arts Gallery at Northeastern Illinois University, 3701 W. Bryn Mawr Ave. in Chicago. Three events are scheduled in conjunction with the exhibit:
