Summer Transition Program

When can I apply for the Summer Transition Program (STP)?

Students can apply for STP immediately after they take the Placement tests. As soon as they finish the tests, based on their test results, they get a link to the STP online registration form.

Can I apply for STP even though I am not admitted to Northeastern?

No. Only students admitted to Northeastern for the fall semester can apply for the program.

Can I still apply for STP if the application deadline has passed?

Yes, you can still apply for STP. However, if all the seats for the program have been filled, you may be placed on the wait list.

When will I find out if I'm in the program?

Students who are accepted to STP will receive an e-mail and letter of acceptance from the Student Transition Services Office by the first week of June. 

Is there a fee or charge to attend STP?

No. STP is a free program for NEIU students except for parking/transportation and travel expenses.

Is lunch provided during the STP program?

Yes, lunch is provided and it is free.

What are the Welcome activities and Closing ceremony of the STP?

The STP Welcome activities are on Saturday, June 25, 2016. It is for STP students and their families only. The Welcome activities are unique opportunities for STP students to meet each other and the instructors and success coaches who will work with them during the program. Students will also receive additional information about the Summer Transition Program.

The Closing ceremony will take place on Friday, August 12, 2016. (STP dates are updated as of March 28, 2016) Time - To Be Announced

IMPORTANT: Students are required to attend all six-weeks of the program and both the Welcome activities and Closing ceremony.

I am in STP, but cannot attend Orientation on the designated STP orientation date, what should I do?

If you haven't attended an Orientation session and cannot attend on the designated STP orientation date, you will need to choose another orientation date that is scheduled before STP begins. Once STP begins you can attend only a Saturday Orientation in order to avoid missing any STP session since STP runs M-F, 9:00 a.m. to  3:00 p.m.

What is the difference between STP and EMERGE?

The Summer Transition Program (STP) is a six-week program, Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. It includes a three credit hour course, math and reading/writing workshops and workshops for career planning, transition to college, civic engagement, student leadership and health and wellness.

The English and Math Enrichment, Readiness and Growth Experience (EMERGE) Summer Program has two (2) three-week programs: English is held June 27 - July 14 and Math is held July 18  - August 4. Learn more about the EMERGE Summer Program
