High School Band Camp

The Northeastern Illinois University Music Department will host their first annual High School Band Camp in Summer 2018!


Dates: July 22-27, 2018

For: Rising 9th graders through graduating seniors

Class Schedules

In addition to playing with the wind ensemble, campers will have the opportunity to take music classes that will enhance both their instrumental technique and overall musicianship. A class schedule will be created for campers based on their placement audition after check-in.


Sunday, July 22

            Noon: Check-in

            1 p.m.: Parent meeting/campers practice for audition

            2 p.m.: Woodwind auditions/brass and percussion theory exam

            3 p.m.: Brass and percussion auditions/woodwind theory exam           

Monday, July 23-Thursday, July 26

            8:30 a.m.: Musicianship class

            9:30 a.m.: Large ensemble rehearsal

            11:15 a.m.: Elective class

            12:15 p.m.: Lunch (Provided by camp)

            1:30 p.m.: Large ensemble

            3:15 p.m.: Sectionals

            4:15 p.m.: Snack (Provided by camp)

            5 p.m.: Evening Recitals

Friday, July 27

            8:30 a.m.: Musicianship class

            9:30 a.m.: Large ensemble rehearsal

            11:15 a.m.: Elective class

            12:15 p.m.: Lunch (Provided by camp)

            1:30 p.m.: Large ensemble

            3:15 p.m.: Sectionals

            4:15 p.m.: Snack (Provided by camp)

            5 p.m.: End of camp activity

            7:30 p.m.: Final concert


Campers may choose from a list of electives: jazz ensemble, brass ensemble, woodwind ensemble, percussion ensemble, conducting, and yoga for musicians.


Campers have the opportunity to attend and perform in recitals, and go on a city excursion to watch a professional ensemble. There will be a final wind ensemble concert in the NEIU Auditorium on the last day of camp.

Solo Artists Competition

There will be an opportunity for campers to audition for the solo artists recital. The winners will have an opportunity to play their solo for the camp during one of the evening recitals.

Private Lessons

Private lessons will be available for an additional fee. You may request a lesson at check-in. Lessons will be 50 minutes and cost will be at the standard rate of the private instructor. A list of instructors and pricing will be provided in the camp preparation packets. Lessons are payable by cash or check only. Checks should be written out to the private lesson instructor directly.
