Northeastern prepares for Earth Day events

Northeastern Illinois University will host a series of events on April 22 to mark Earth Day that are sponsored by a number of student organizations. The activities begin with an opening ceremony, bike parade and games at 11 a.m. in the Commons. At 11:30 a.m., the University will unveil a new bike rack and repair station and air pump. The Green Conservation Group and Green Fee Committee will lead a tree planting at 11:30 a.m. and a campus tree walk at 12:30 p.m.

Julie Iromuanya to read from debut novel

Julie Iromuanya has always wanted to write books. When she was 8 years old, she wrote her first query letter to three publishers. One of the publishers wrote back and said it was “not soliciting new works at this time.” Iromuanya recalled looking up the word “solicit” because at that age, she didn’t know what it meant. That early rejection didn’t hinder Iromuanya from making her childhood dream a reality. “It was such a funny thing, because I was so encouraged,” she said.

Northeastern plans Money Smart Week events

Northeastern Illinois University will participate in the Chicago Federal Reserve’s Money Smart Week from April 18-25. Money Smart Week is a public awareness campaign to promote financial literacy across all age groups. Here is the schedule of events: GeoCache for College Cash, April 20-23, Cafe Descartes in the Library Students can bring their smartphones and their financial smarts to the Library to enter to win one of three $1,000 scholarship prizes.
