The Freshman Leadership Institute (FLI)is a premier leadership development program for aspiring student leaders.  During an exciting eight-week workshop series, you will have the opportunity to meet influential university leaders, develop personal leadership skills, and create a network of colleagues.  Through the guidance of an experienced student leader, you and your cohort will have the chance to get involved in the many facets of leadership at Northeastern Illinois University.  You don’t need a background in leadership to be a part of FLI.  First-year students from all levels of experience are welcome. Institute will run from the week of October 6th through the week of December 1st.  You will be able to select either a Tuesday or Wednesday meeting time.

Student Responsibilities

  • Working closely with your group
  • Establishing personal values
  • Striving to be an integral part of the university
  • Meeting new people, developing relationships, and having fun
  • Attending weekly workshops, either Tuesdays or Wednesdays @ 3:30-5:00 p.m.
  • Attending FLI Orientation Social: October 6th or 7th 2009 @ 3:30-5:00 p.m.
  • Attending Service Learning Institute: November 14, 2009  All Day at UIC
  • Attending FLI Graduation:  December 2, 2009 @ 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Important Deadlines

To receive more information about FLI you can attend one of the information meetings on September 2nd @ 11:00-11:30 a.m. or 4:30-5:00 p.m. in SU 215 or September 3rd during Activity Hour (1:40 p.m.) in SU 215. Applications will be made available on-line at www.neiu.edu/~lead and are to be completed by September 18 at 4:30 p.m.  Once you have completed your application, you will be contacted for an interview time.  Interviews will be held the week of September 21-25th and will last approximately 10-15 minutes.  Please arrive to interviews in business casual attire.  We will notify applicants via email about acceptance into the program.
