Overview of campus sustainability initiatives

Launching of NEIU's solar panel project by Alderman Margaret Laurino

Location: Quad in front of Student Union (weather permitting)


12 NOON - 2 PM



Poster presentation/display by students on sustainability issues/student initiatives

Location: Village Square







Green Technology display by commercial vendors including:

            - Chevy Volt (electric car)

            - Think EV (electric car) and charging station

            - solar panels

Location: Quad in front of Student Union

2 PM - 3:30 PM

Panel Discussion hosted by the Department of Geography & Environmental Studies


Theme: What are we doing to address climate change? Policies at the national, state and local   levels

Speakers:

         - Melissa Hulting Regional Climate Change Coordinator, USEPA Region 5, Air & Radiation Division

           - Eric Heineman Senior Sustainability Advisor in the Office of Governor Pat Quinn

           - Emily Plagman Energy Efficiency Project Coordinator, Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning

         - Nicholas Magrisso Midwest Program Associate, Natural Resources Defense Council

Biology Department Annual Plant Sale

Plants are grown by students and faculty at the NEIU Biology Greenhouse.
Plants include spectacular herbs and garden vegetables, as well as native species for the Midwest.

Thursday, April 26

Time: 8-10 am

Location: meet on Quad in front of Student Union
Planting of native shrubs and shade loving plants, eg. ferns
