Dr. Thomas J. Tobin
Coordinator of Learning Technologies

About Tom:Tom Tobin is the CTL's Coordinator of Learning Technologies. He started his career in teaching with technology in the early 1990s, when most teaching tools required coding knowledge, and teaching online meant creating a web page and a discussion area "by hand." He has taught at the K-12, college, and graduate levels, starting in 1993, in many modes: face-to-face, technology-enhanced, hybrid, and online.

These days, Tom is a Senior Faculty member of the DeVry University online Educational Technology master's degree program, where he teaches, designs courses, and serves on the program's steering committee. In his role here at NEIU, Tom brings his classroom, design, and faculty-support techniques to help faculty to accomplish their learning objectives through the use of technology and innovative teaching techniques.

Tom earned his undergraduate degree in English and New York State certification in 7-12 teaching from Canisius College, and holds a master's degree in English from Indiana State University, as well as a doctorate in English from Duquesne University. He also earned a master's degree in library science from Clarion University, and most recently obtained the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

All faculty and instructors are encouraged to contact Tom ( or x4497) to learn more about how the CTL can help you and your department achieve your startegic goals through the use of innovative teaching techniques.
