Policies and Etiquette

Policies

  • All participants must sign-in upon entry to the Fitness Center.
  • Safe and proper use of equipment is required at all times. Do not drop weights.
  • Collars must be used on Olympic bars at all times.
  • Abuse of property (slamming weight stacks, dropping weights, etc.) or verbal or
    physical abuse of participants or staff will not be tolerated. Violators may
    be subject to disciplinary process and asked to leave the facility
    immediately.
  • Weight plates, dumbbells, Olympic bars, and other equipment should be returned to their proper location after use.
  • All strength training equipment should stay in its original location.
  • Athletic shoes covering the entire foot should be worn at all times. Sandals, other open-toe shoes, and jeans are not permitted.
  • Wipe down equipment after use with spray bottles and towels provided in the Fitness Center.
  • For your safety, when the Fitness Center is at capacity, staff will form an entrance line.
  • There is a 30-minute limit on all cardiovascular equipment to promote cross training and increase participation.
  • Children/dependents under the age of 18 are not allowed in the Fitness Center.
  • No personal bags are allowed on the main floor of the Fitness Center – please use storage bins or lockers. The Office of Campus Recreation is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
  • No food or beverages other than water are permitted in the Fitness Center.
  • All participants should enter and exit through the designated doorway.
  • Only authorized personnel of the Office of Campus Recreation are allowed to personal train in the Fitness Center.
  • In the event of an injury or accident, inform a Campus Recreation staff member.
  • Only on-duty Campus Recreation staff may adjust radio/TV stations or volume.

Etiquette

  • Please be courteous to other participants and allow them to “work in” between sets.
  • Keep equipment and floors free from obstruction and stand away from mirrors.
  • Ask a staff member for spotting assistance if you feel that you may struggle with a set.
  • Be aware of others around you at all times.
  • Please keep personal headphones at a level so as not to disturb other participants.
