NEIU Women's Volleyball Club
History
Northeastern Illinois University Women's Volleyball Club began when a sole woman, named Ana Gonzalez, went before Campus Recreation with the idea of starting a women's volleyball club in 2004. The club has been growing strong ever since. Many members have come and gone through the club but the memories and friendships will last forever.
General Information
We encourage all women to be a part of our club. Playing experience isn't necessary. Due to the level of competition play against, there is a traveling team among the club. This team consists of 12-14 women that are determined by the coach and the officers of the club.
The traveling team members play in competitive tournaments around Chicago and in other neighboring cities. Those members provide their own traveling expenses (carpooling is common and fundraisers are often held). Tournaments are some Saturdays and notice is given months in advance. The playing season goes on in both Fall and Spring semesters.
Traveling members must be able to make at least 2 out of the 3 practice days a week throughout the semester to be eligible to compete in tournaments. Practices consist of conditioning, drills, strategic rotational formations, and scrimmages.
