On August 18, alumni and faculty emeriti of the Chicago Teachers College (CTC) were welcomed home to their North Side campus, which today is known as Northeastern Illinois University. The NEIU Alumni Association hosted this reunion, which brought back more than 50 retired schoolteachers, administrators and CTC faculty.
Many of these alumni graduated more than 50 years ago, and one alumna, Sarah Blumen, graduated as long as 71 years ago. This reunion gave them the opportunity to reminisce about their college days and catch up on each other's lives.
Chicago Teachers College alumni who celebrated their Golden (50 years) and
Diamond (60 years) reunions were presented with medallions to recognize their milestones.
In addition to a breakfast and luncheon, the CTC alumni toured campus on a trolley. Many marveled in the changes to campus since they were students; some alumni even said that the only building that existed on campus in their day is what is now the Sachs Administration Building.
Programming for the day included presentations about updates to the teachers' pension program and tips on diet and exercise; a tribute to Thomas Tufo, who founded the Chicago Teachers College Association; recognition of Golden and Diamond Alumni (50 and 60-year reunions); and a performance by student dancers from Ensemble Espanol.
