President's Message

President HahsGreetings,

It is wonderful to have the entire University community back together again for the Fall semester. I am pleased to announce that this academic year we welcomed more than 2,000 new students, 13 new tenure-track faculty and two new vice presidents. Also new on campus is the Admissions and Transfer Center, Pedroso Center for Diversity and Intercultural Affairs, Alumni Center, U-Pass Program, increased wireless coverage, and the implementation of wireless printing for students.

I am excited to introduce you to our new leadership in the Institutional Advancement and Student Life divisions. On August 1, we welcomed Melba Rodriguez as vice president for institutional advancement and Dr. Frank E. Ross as vice president for student life.

Vice President RodriguezVice President Rodriguez has more than 15 years of demonstrated success in advancement programs both in higher education and the private sector. She will lead efforts to strengthen the University's development activities as well as the areas of alumni relations, marketing, public relations, and university events. Vice President Rodriguez's broad experience will provide strategic direction as Northeastern continues to focus on improving fiscal strength and student success.

Most recently, Rodriguez served as chief development officer for the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago. Prior to that, she served as vice president for institutional advancement at both Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa, and St. Augustine College in Chicago. She also has served as vice president of Lifelink Charities and director of development for Family Matters in Chicago.

Vice President RossVice President Ross has more than 15 years of demonstrated success in higher education student life administration. His extensive experience will provide a strong foundation as Northeastern continues to focus strategically on student success. He will bring all areas of the student life division together to enhance each student's experience at Northeastern.

Most recently, Ross served as the associate provost for student success and dean of students at the University of North Texas at Dallas. Prior to that, he served in various capacities for 11 years at Indiana University -- Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), including assistant vice chancellor for the Division of Student Life.

NEIU Welcomes Vice Presidents Rodriguez and Ross
On August 1, NEIU welcomed two new vice presidents. Melba Rodriguez is the new vice president for institutional advancement, and Dr. Frank Ross is the new vice president for student life. They each bring more than 15 years of experience in their fields and will lead Northeastern's efforts toward improving fiscal strength and student success.
