Tee Time for Scholarships
The 39th Annual Chuck Kane Memorial Golf Outing, Northeastern Illinois University Foundation's annual golf outing to benefit scholarships, was held on August 15 at Highland Park Country Club. Ninety participants--including alumni, retirees, faculty, staff, students, and friends?golfed, and more than 100 people attended the dinner program.
During the dinner program, the NEIU Foundation presented Martin J. and Patricia Koldyke with the 2011 Chuck Kane Educational Leadership Award. The Chuck Kane Educational Leadership Award is an honor given to outstanding leaders in education who have made a real difference in the lives of Northeastern students. The Koldykes co-founded the Golden Apple Foundation in Chicago in 1985. The Golden Apple Foundation recruits, prepares and mentors outstanding prospective teachers, provides high-quality professional development, and recognizes and supports the work of excellent teachers. In addition, Martin Koldyke founded the Academy for Urban School Leadership (AUSL) in 2001. The AUSL recruits, trains and places new teachers in Chicago?s schools of need.
Annual proceeds from the Chuck Kane Memorial Golf Outing benefit scholarships for NEIU students in every college of the University. Since 1972, the Kane Outing has provided scholarships for more than 100 students. The NEIU Foundation is assessing financial outcomes of the 2011 Kane Outing to determine net profit.
