Northeastern Illinois University actively promotes a welcoming campus for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning students. Besides participating in the Chicago Annual Pride Parade, the University celebrates our LGBTQ students with campus events. This year, NEIU will host a free lecture event featuring Candace Gingrich who will be discussing her book and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) advocacy as well.
Northeastern is also proud to have a strong student organization that hosts events and shares resources. The GLBTQ Alliance is open to all LGBTQ students who attend the University.
Northeastern has implemented a Safe Zone program so that students can find staff and faculty allies on campus with whom they can feel free to talk and receive the understanding and assistance that they need.
Gender neutral bathrooms can be found at the University. Gender neutral restrooms benefit many different people because they do not segregate people by their sex/gender. These single-person bathrooms provide comfort and safety to transgender, genderqueer, and gender variant people, as well as parents or caregivers to other-sex people. For more information about gender neutral bathrooms on campus see our PDF flyer.
