International Applicants

International applicants who require the I-20 (Certificate of Eligibility for Non-immigrant Students Status) must submit all of the following additional documents:

  1. A course-by-course evaluation report: An additional set of transcripts from foreign institutions must be sent for a detailed course-by-course evaluation to Educational Credential Evaluators(ECE). This evaluation report is required as part of the admission document requirements as it analyzes and converts the foreign credentials into US equivalent. An ECE form for credential evaluation can be obtained from their website and also other details. You must request ECE to forward one of the two copies to Graduate Admissions (Room LWH 0006) of Northeastern Illinois University.

  2. Official TOEFL results: A minimum score of 550 (Paper based), 79 (Internet-based) is required for admission for all applicants whose native language is not English. Northeastern Illinois University's test code is 1090. Click here to go to the official website.

  3. Financial Statement with supporting documents: All international applicants must make adequate provisions to meet all financial needs for the entire period of stay in the United States while pursuing a full-time course of study. As an international applicant, you and/or your sponsor must complete the Northeastern Financial Statement and provide supporting documents to prove resources available for at least the first calendar year. The Financial Statement and supporting documents cannot be dated more than six months prior to the date of application. Only proof of savings account and certificates of deposits are considered satisfactory evidence of financial resources.

  4. Bank Letter : See sample of Bank letter.

  5. Copy of Visa : Copy of current visa if the applicant is in the USA.

  6. Copy of I-20 If already in the U.S. attending school or have completed schooling.

  7. Specific Program Requirements: Individual programs may have additional requirements, such as the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT), letters of recommendation, or others. Click on "List of Graduate Programs."

    All foreign applicants must provide ECE report. Application form is available at the graduate college office.

    When your application file, including the documents listed above, is complete, it will be reviewed by Graduate Admissions. If your application is approved, you will receive a letter of acceptance and the I-20 form separately.
