Ensemble Español sweeps Spain off its feet

The rumors are true: Spain is in love with the Ensemble Español Spanish Dance Theater. Northeastern Illinois University’s resident dance company is celebrating its 40th year of bringing traditional Spanish dance to American and international stages. But it wasn’t until August that, for the very first time, the 40-member Ensemble packed up their costumes, shoes and fans and took their love and passion for their art to the stages of Spain. Needless to say, it was love at first sight.

El Centro celebrates second anniversary with LEED Gold certification

Northeastern Illinois University’s El Centro building in the Avondale neighborhood of Chicago has been awarded LEED Gold certification. LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is the premier green building rating system program for buildings, homes and communities that are designed, constructed, maintained and operated for improved environmental and human health performance.

Northeastern to host four #EarlyFAFSA workshops

In response to first lady Michelle Obama’s Reach Higher campaign to encourage students to complete their education past high school, Northeastern Illinois University will host four #EarlyFAFSA Completion Challenge events at three of its locations around Chicago. All four events are free and open to the public. High school students, current students and returning students, as well as their families, are welcome to attend.

Northeastern welcomes 17 new tenure-track faculty members

Northeastern Illinois University’s new tenure-track faculty members were introduced at the Board of Trustees meeting on Sept. 15. “I am thrilled to welcome 17 new members of the faculty into the Northeastern Illinois University community,” Provost Richard J. Helldobler said. “I am confident their knowledge, passion and creativity will inspire and motivate our students on their individual journeys to success.” Here are the 17 new members of the faculty for the Fall 2016 semester.
