Introduction

The minor in Urban Community Studies has been designed to meet the needs of both education and non-education majors who plan to work in inner city communities and schools. The minor provides an opportunity for candidates who are committed to working within the inner city to address issues that are relevant to understanding the community.

Program Benefits

The minor in Urban Community Studies helps students in examining issues affecting urban areas. Through the program students will:

  • Examine introductory theories and methodologies of analyzing urban communities throughout the world.
  • Examine introductory literature of the scholarship and activism associated with addressing the current trends and developments related to the multiplicity of issues and challenges in urban communities.
  • Demonstrate their understanding of urban issues through written and oral communication, and web-based technologies.

Career Options

Students who enroll in this minor can leverage coursework content and analysis from for working in educational settings in urban schools and non-school settings. The minor will afford candidates with contacts and avenues to best address the issues they may encounter.
