M5 Mexican Brass to perform as part of Jewel Box Series

M5 Mexican Brass will perform March 10 as part of Northeastern Illinois University’s Jewel Box Series and the Chicago Brass Festival. The performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Auditorium on the Main Campus, 3701 W. Bryn Mawr Ave.

M5 Mexican Brass has gained international recognition since it was founded in 2005, establishing itself as Mexico's leading brass quintet. Combining their skill and talent playing all styles of virtuosic chamber music, in performance the group adds non-stop interaction with the audience, a sound that is theirs alone, inborn showmanship and their inimitable Latin American charm.

As one of Mexico’s most active cultural ambassadors, M5 has toured extensively in the United States and Canada since 2008. The brass quintet made its South America debut in Colombia in 2012 and returned to the continent in November 2015 for a week of performances in Chile. They performed in Africa at an Algerian festival in 2013 and were guest artists with China’s Wu Han Symphony Orchestra in 2014.

M5 has played in world-renowned venues including the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.; the Teatro Municipal de Las Condes in Santiago, Chile; and the Nezahualcoyotl Concert Hall in Mexico City. M5 has shared the stage with other internationally celebrated brass musicians, including Canadian Brass founding members Fred Mills and Jens Lindemann.

Many of M5’s activities are dedicated to education, where they perform school concerts and assemblies and teach workshops and master classes. M5 has played concerts for more than 30,000 children in Mexico, the U.S. and Canada.
