INTERNET CONNECTION Currently, NDS is providing a very high-speed connection to Internet via fiber/ATM OC3 link through ICN (www.illinois.net). A backup Internet connection is provided with two T-1 line (3 MPbs) to Internet via Verio (www.verio.net). NDS provides security to NEIU networks by using firewall device and protection against viruses via email by using Norton Anti Virus gateway. NDS monitors Internet connection links by using standard monitoring softwares to provide the best service to our user community. NDS uses private IP addresses for all internal devices to increase protection for NEIU network. All public servers are located in well-protected zone (DMZ) in which we have:

NETWORK PRINTERS NEIU is using Network and stand-alone printers. Within Network Printers there are two basic types of Printers: IP base Printers and IPX/IP base printers. NDS manages print services on Novell and Unix and NT environment.

TELECOMMUNICATIONS & HELP DESK NDS receives a heavy load of calls from Help Desk and provides guidance and assistance to Help Desk on regular basis. NDS also works closely with AIS, Academic Computing and other departments to provide them assistance for their projects and daily work.

INFRASTRUCTURE NDS maintains Fiber plant, which runs between the building for main campus. NDS provides connections to all devices/computers and terminal using CAT5 and CAT5-Enhanaced connections.

USER NETWORK PORTS The purpose of network storage space is for data files, (word processing documents, spreadsheets, etc.) which must be backed up or may have to be shared with others. Please do not attempt to install applications on these drives as they may be erased by network maintenance routine.
