The Northeastern Illinois University Police Department relies heavily upon its Police Telecommunicators (TC). They serve as the first line of communication between the community and the Police. The information that they provide to the community and Police Officers is essential to campus safety.
Telecommunicators staff the communications office 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They monitor the University’s Fire alarm system, Security system and take initial reports ranging from unlocking rooms to medical emergencies. Our Telecommunicators are LEADS certified which allows them to properly disseminate warrant, criminal, driver and other information to officers on the street. In addition to their Police duties, TC’s also answer telephone lines and answer questions regarding operation, maintenance and parking after business hours. Our TC’s are trained in CPR and proper usage of Automatic External Defibrillators. Police Telecommunicators are essential to the daily operations of the NEIU Police Department.
