Admissions Information for Veterans
Veterans applying for admission to Northeastern Illinois University must submit an admission application and non-refundable application fee by published applicaiton and credentials deadlines. Please refer to the admissions requirements for the appropriate admissions type you are applying as for full details about the admissions process and required documents.
All veterans should provide a copy of form DD-214 with their application. If you have not yet been discharged, please submit a copy of form DD-214 as soon as it is available.

Credit for Military Service
Four credit hours are awareded to veterans who have been honorably discharged and have served a minimum of one year on active duty or in the reserve. Veterans must submit a copy of form DD-214 to the Admissions Office at the time of application, or as soon as the form is available.
Credit may also be awarded for those United States Armed Forces Institute (USAFI) courses for which the American Council on Education (ACE) recommends credit at the baccalaureate level, provided the student has passed the appropriate USAFI end-of-course test or exam.
Credit may be awarded for courses taken at the Community College of the Air Force.
Credit for service schools successfully completed may be evaluated upon request. In order to grant credit to veterans for service school/training, veterans must provide to the Admissions Office a copy of the AARTS or SMART transcript. These transcripts are free to all eligible soldiers, sailors and marines.

In order to have yoru SMART or AARTS transcript reviewed, please fill out the Request for Re-Evaluation form available at the Enrollment Services Center.
