Having reviewed the
course proposal/syllabus for TESL 109: FYE: Teaching English in Chicago, I find that the course meets the requirements
of the criteria for inclusion in the First-Year Experience Program’s “First-Year
Colloquium”, including 1) adherence to the general theme of “Diversity in
Chicago” in its makeup; 2) the incorporation of the core curriculum and its
goals/objectives; and 3) a field experience component that links classroom
learning with research, field work, civic engagement, service learning, and/or
other community involvement within the city of Chicago.
