Learning Support Center Writing Tutors
We offer workshops and one-on-one tutoring as a free service to any student currently enrolled in a class at NEIU. Tutors are available to work with students by appointment.
Our tutors are experienced writers who work with you on all phases of your writing process in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. Our goal is to collaborate with you to help you develop your own strategies for writing.
Upon request, a tutor may assess a student’s writing and will suggest strategies for improving a paper, but our focus is on making better writers.
As our services are in high demand throughout the semester, we encourage students to make appointments in advance to ensure that they will get the help needed. Weekly appointments are available and strongly encouraged.
To make an appointment with a writing tutor at the Learning Support Center, call 773-442-4568.
If you have any questions regarding writing services, please contact the LSC writing specialist, Borislava Quaintance, at b-quaintance@neiu.edu.
Learning Support Center Reading Assistance
How do you feel about the reading demands of college? Confused? Overwhelmed? Feeling lost? Are you thinking that you could handle college level work, but now you are wondering how you are going to navigate your way through all the required reading in time to take the tests and write the papers, too? Are you reading some things over and over, but finding that they are still not making sense to you?
The reading specialist in the Learning Support Center can show you how to use reading strategies that really work. For example, there are ways to set a reading purpose, design note-taking plans, and apply techniques for synthesizing difficult material. In addition to guided tutoring, the reading specialist can provide materials for those who wish to work independently on reading speed, reading levels, and academic vocabulary.
Make an appointment to see the reading specialist by calling 773-442-4568.
If you have any questions regarding reading assistance, please visit Ellen Tiernan, reading specialist, at the Learning Support Center on the 4th floor of the Ronald Williams Library.
