Community Education Program
In collaboration with community-based organizations, NEIU-El Centro serves the Latino community through bilingual (English and Spanish) outreach programs in the areas of education, health, housing and technology. Community members may also enroll in English as a Second Language (ESL) for non-credit at no cost. NEIU-El Centro’s Community Education Program seeks to improve the lives of Latinos living in the Avondale, Hermosa, Humboldt Park, Logan square communities and its surrounding neighborhoods.
NEIU and ASPIRA Inc. of Illinois Partners in Education
In 2002, NEIU and ASPIRA Inc. of Illinois joined efforts to establish an educational partnership to benefit the Latino youth and adult population of Chicago. As a result, NEIU-El Centro Campus has housed the Antonia Pantoja High School, creating an environment where high school students are supported to complete their high school studies and eventually pursue a higher education degree at NEIU. To date approximately 50 APHS graduates and several high school staff including teachers and administrators have enrolled at NEIU-El Centro Campus. NEIU and ASPIRA also have a dual admission agreement where ASPIRA Early College (AEC) High School students can concurrently enroll at AEC and NEIU during their junior and senior year to receive academic dual credit.
Here is the brief description and contact information for some of the community organizations we work with:
