Each year, SLD organizes several different days of service that allow students to impact the local Chicagoland community. We encourage you to get involved as much as you can throughout the year. For the 2014-2015 year, our Days of Service are as follows: National Day of Service and Remembrance September 11th has been officially designated as a National Day of Service and Remembrance under the 2009 Serve America Act
NEIU Day of Service For the last several years, Northeastern students and alums have come together to do a service project in the Chicagoland community. Make a Difference Day For more than 20 years, USA WEEKEND Magazine and :Points of Light" have joined together to sponsor "Make A Difference Day," the largest national day of community service. Millions of volunteers around the world unite in a common mission to improve the lives of others.
Equity into Action Conference This yearly conference, presented by The Angelina Pedroso Center for Diversity and Intercultural Affairs, explores issues of equity and social justice. Holiday Toy Drive Join NEU community in collecting toys for local youth agencies.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service Make MLK Day a day on and not a day off! We’ll be joining with City Year, a nationwide service organization, to do a day of service. Last year’s project involved over 500 volunteers revamping an elementary school in Humboldt Park. You won’t want to miss this year’s event!
Cesar Chavez Day of Service and Learning Join Northeastern, The North River Commission, The Peterson Garden Project, The Refugee Training Farm, Roosevelt High School and Volta Elementary as we participate this official holiday that honors the life, work and values of activist Cesar Chavez (http://chavezfoundation.org)
National Volunteer Week This weeklong celebration honors those who give of themselves throughout the year. Last year, Northeastern hosted various service events, presenters and a small reception.
