The maestro cares foundation Scholarship
This scholarship aims to recognize outstanding individuals who demonstrate a commitment to community engagement, academic pursuits and personal growth. Undergraduate student recipients will be awarded a $6,000 scholarship per year and graduate student recipients will be awarded a $4,000 scholarship per year. The scholarship is renewable for up to four years for undergraduate students and two years for graduate students.
Eligible undergraduate students are declared major in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth Science, Environmental Science or Physics and are taking 12 credit hours each in the fall and spring semesters. Drachler biology Scholarship
This endowed scholarship has been established by A. Michael Drachler, M.D., an alumnus of the Department of Biology, in order to acknowledge that Northeastern Illinois University was where he learned to become a student and gave him the academic skills to pursue a long and productive career in Medicine.
The Drachler Scholarship is open to eligible applicants every fall and spring semester with two awards given each semester; one for $1,000 and the other for $500.
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
- Be a declared major or graduate student in Biology. Transfer students must have completed at least two semesters at NEIU.
- Have demonstrated academic merit with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and be in good academic standing.
- Be currently enrolled part-time or full-time.
- Have demonstrated financial need (to be verified by the Office of Financial Aid).
Applicants will be considered based on academic merit, financial need, evidence of growth as a student, and promise of future achievement. Students may win this award a maximum of two times. Apply by filling out the Drachler Scholarship Application form. Applications are due on March 31 and on Oct. 31 of each year.
The Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation
The Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation was established by Congress in 1986 to serve as a living memorial to honor the lifetime work of Senator Barry Goldwater, who served his country for 56 years a soldier and statesman, including 30 years in the U.S. Senate.
Scholarships of up to $7,500 a year are provided to help cover costs associated with tuition, fees, books, room and board. A sophomore who receives a Goldwater Scholarship will receive up to $7,500 during each of his/her/their junior and senior years. A junior who receives a Goldwater Scholarship will receive up to $7,500 during his/her/their senior year. Learn more about the Barry Goldwater Scholarship opportunity.
Environmental Career scholarships
The Friends of Volo Bog offers three $1,500 scholarships for Illinois students interested in pursuing careers in environmental fields. The application deadline is March 31.
The Friends of Moraine Hills State Park offers two $2,000 scholarships for Illinois students interested in pursuing careers in environmental fields. The application deadline is April 30.

NEIU merit tuition scholarships
College of Arts and Sciences (CAS)
The College of Arts and Sciences provides a limited number of Merit Tuition Scholarships every semester for interested and deserving undergraduates within the College of Arts and Sciences (including Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Environmental Science, Mathematics, Physics and Psychology majors). These scholarships are generally granted for three to six credit hours and students MUST be enrolled at least half-time. Scholarships will be granted on the basis of the student’s intended major, status, intended career/educational goals, transcripts and/or ACT/SAT scores, and letter of recommendation.
