El Centro is one of Northeastern’s four campus locations in the Chicago area. Founded in the 1960s, it has evolved into a comprehensive campus serving our students and the community. El Centro offers an array of academic course offerings, recruitment and admission programs, academic support and co-curricular programs for students, and outreach initiatives for the neighboring community.
Main Campus - Temporary Location
A final schedule has been devised enabling all classes to take place in a single location – Northeastern’s main campus – thereby making this temporary accommodation more convenient for our El Centro students and faculty.
Access to Opportunity
Northeastern is aware of the growing needs of our students and the community. During the last few years, the University has worked to unveil a new milestone for El Centro – a new campus location!
Fall 2014 marks the opening of the new El Centro campus located in the Avondale neighborhood.
This new facility expands our academic and community programming. The modern facility includes:
- technology-enhanced classrooms
- state-of-the-art laboratories
- inviting student lounge and study spaces
- a computer lab
- Library Resource Center
- comfortable meeting rooms and gathering spaces
- faculty and staff offices an outdoor, third-floor terrace
Empowerment Through Learning
At El Centro, students can take classes during the day, evening and weekend. Beginning Fall 2014, in addition to the general education program, students can work on obtaining their bachelor's degree on any of the following majors through a flexible schedule.
El Centro serves the community through instruction and outreach programs. English as a Second Language and computer literacy workshops are offered to the community as well as seminars on education, health, housing and technology.
In collaboration with community-based organizations, El Centro seeks to improve the lives of Latinos living in the Avondale, Hermosa, Humboldt Park and Logan square communities, and surrounding neighborhoods.
