Northeastern is a commuter school that’s nested in community. We have several campuses in different parts of the city that provide a diverse view of the Chicago metropolitan area.

Northeastern’s Main Campus

The main campus is located on 67 acres in a quiet, residential community area of North Park, just ten miles northwest of downtown Chicago. On the Main Campus you will find the Physical Education Complex, Ronald Williams Library, Bernard Brommel Hall, Lech Walesa Hall and Beck’s, the campus bookstore. The Offices of Enrollment Services, which includes Admissions, Financial Aid, Scholarships and Registration are housed on the Main Campus.

Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies

The Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies (CCICS) is located in Chicago's historic Bronzeville neighborhood. Established in 1966, CCICS is recognized worldwide as an African-centered institution of higher learning that maintains a scholar-activist tradition and a warm, caring educational climate. The Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in Inner City Studies Education prepares students to work as professionals in a multiplicity of inner city agencies, institutions, and organizations, both public and private.

El Centro

Since 1968, El Centro has been a focal point of access to higher education opportunities for the Latino community. It provides educational opportunities within a culturally comfortable and easily accessible setting. The caring staff members of El Centro are dedicated to helping students reach their academic, personal, and professional goals. El Centro offers general education courses leading to bachelor’s degrees offered at Northeastern and provides comprehensive academic support for students.

El Centro welcomes applications from all students seeking higher education and takes pride in supporting students of diverse backgrounds. General admission criteria of the University for freshmen and transfer students are followed. In addition, students who do not met the general admission criteria and demonstrate academic potential may be considered for admission to Northeastern through El Centro. El Centro also serves the community through our Community Education Program in partnership with community organizations in the neighborhoods of Albany Park, Hermosa, Logan Square, and Avondale. English as a Second Language (ESL) and computer literacy workshops are offered, as well as seminars on education, immigration, health, and housing.

The current El Centro facility is easily accessible by public transportation and via major highways. It is also close to residents of the West Town, Hermosa, Humboldt Park, and Logan Square neighborhoods.

El Centro has a permanent new home located in Chicago’s Avondale neighborhood. The new facility is 55,000-square feet, LEED certified and state-of-the-art. It is highly visible to the 460,000 vehicles that travel daily along the Kennedy Expressway. For more information, please call (773) 442-4080 or visit
